If you're one of our wonderful neighbors to the north, you may already know this but Canada has a law called The Canada Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), which went into effect on July 1, 2014.
This law that was put into place has greatly changed not only how Canadian businesses use Schedulicity to send out email marketing messages, but all email marketing companies in Canada have to abide by this law.
Bear with me as I try to do my best to lay out how this law affects you using Schedulicity's email marketing feature. The good news is, this Canadian law does not affect our notifications, reminders, or text reminders to your clients as these types of emails are considered transactional. The CASL law is specifically aimed to protect email owners from receiving marketed emails they don't opt into receive. So, to protect your business and Schedulicity we do follow this law with respect.
When you or a client books an appointment with your business, this alerts our system and will recognize that this person has a relationship with you and knows your business. So, once they have booked with you, they then are opted into receiving emails from your business. It's that easy, they just need to have an appointment on the books with you and then they are allowed to receive messages from your business.
We understand that this isn't the most convenient policy but again, we have chosen to protect your business and follow the CASL law.
